Valentine's Babysitting Service - Fundraiser
I'm sure you could think of a better name for this fundraiser... but basically, you would ask some of your youth to volunteer to do childcare for the evening. A lot of parents have a hard time going on a night out because they have to worry about child-care. Valentine's is a perfect night to offer this service as a fundraiser as most married couples would like to go on a night out without worrying about their kids. Find out how much the going rate is for babysitting and you can either offer it for the same price or a little less - it is a fundraiser, and people understand that you are trying to raise money, they are doing this to support your ministry as well.
Firstly, you have to make sure that you have enough adults along with responsible youth volunteers to take care of the children. Once you know how many volunteers you have, you can find out how many kids you can take care of ( this might be a 1 to 3 or 1 to 5 ratio). When you know this number you can advertise how many slots you have available and to make sure that people sign up their kids quickly. Make sure you know the number of kids you will be having ahead of time so you can plan accordingly!
It is probably best to use the Toddler room in your church, with permission from the Children's Ministry Director. Make sure to inquire about clean up and sanitizing toys after use. It might be good to have a volunteer who is knswledgable with First Aid or has taken a Babysitting Course.
Make sure to plan age-appropriate activities and snacks for the night. If you have different age groups, you can split them up into different rooms if your facility allows. If they are mostly toddlers, you can offer toys and play with them, you could show them an age appropriate movie or tv show. If they are a little older, you can prepare several crafts (I'm sure your Children's Ministry can give you some ideas), etc. Make sure that you include the cost of the crafts and snacks in your pricing - or you can ask parents to bring a snack for their child. ** Make sure to be aware of allergies.
As in all things, be creative with how you advertise your fundraiser - make posters, do a skit or video as an announcement. It would be a good idea to have a table for registering or a contact person that parents can call to ask questions. This is also a night for your youth to get to know each other and to learn how to work as a team. Enjoy each other and have fun!
